Working in Boler Connects Graduate Assistant With Purpose

Ariana Carver was a driven professional searching for the right career path.  Between her graduate assistantship at John Carroll and internship experience at Eaton Corporation, she feels confident and prepared as she starts her career in human resources.

Ariana did not study business as an undergrad, earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology. She was looking for the next step, and learned about a graduate assistant program in Boler. “I could never pass up the opportunity to earn an education from a school like John Carroll,” Ariana says. “I had to take advantage of this resource that allowed me to gain experience while studying for my MBA.”

In the classroom, Ariana credits professors like Dr. Andrew Welki with supporting her transition to studying business. “I was hesitant and nervous to start the class, and I struggled,” she says. “Dr. Welki helped me every step of the way. He gave me the confidence I needed to succeed in his class.”

Outside of the classroom, Ariana works in the Office of Employer Relations and Internships, and has interacted with business leaders from a wide range of companies. “Working in this office also allows me to interact with students in our internship program,” Ariana says. “I was able to use the skills I’ve learned in my own internship.”

At Eaton, Ariana immersed herself in learning about talent acquisition, and the vital role it plays in a successful company. “This was something I wanted more exposure to and during my 12 weeks with Eaton I was able to fill 17 positions,” she says. “It’s fulfilling work to interact with others and learn about their experiences.” Ariana encourages students to take advantage of the resources around them. “The JCU alumni network is strong and always willing to help,” she says. “The skills you learn at John Carroll, in addition to the name and reputation, will take you a long way.”
