Background
Dr. William N. Bockanic is a Professor Emeritus of Management in the Boler College of Business at John Carroll University. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law of Cleveland State University in 1973 and entered the private practice of law. He holds professional licenses as an Attorney-at-Law in Ohio, New York and the District of Columbia and has previously been a partner in a local firm. In 1979, he entered academia full-time and since that time has been a full-time professor while continuing to maintain a part-time consulting practice. Dr. Bockanic served as Department Chair from 1986-1994. Additionally, Dr. Bockanic had regularly taught as an instructor for the Becker CPA Review and has over 39 years of experience teaching Accounting majors and other business majors in the Boler College. Recently, he was named as one of the top 25 instructors (out of approximately 650 instructors) nationwide based on Becker student evaluations.
Courses
Dr. Bockanic taught Business Law I and Business Law II, as well as Legal Environment of Business. Previously, he had taught a course called Law and Management in the MBA program.
Research
Dr. Bockanic has published in a variety of journals, including the Journal of Accounting Education, the Journal of Business Education, the Journal of Accountancy, the Journal of Systems Management, the SAM Advanced Management Journal, the Business and Professional Ethics Journal, Internal Auditor, Journal of Education for Business, Strategic Finance, The Ohio CPA Journal, the New Accountant, the Journal of Employer Rights and Responsibilities, the Journal of Marketing Management, as well as being published in the proceedings of the American Business Law Association (now known as the Academy of Legal Studies in Business) and the proceedings of The American Accounting Association. He has co-authored a monthly legal column in the Journal of Systems Management, co-authored a chapter on workplace bullying, and also has made numerous conference paper presentations. Also, he served on the editorial review board for Strategic Finance and Management Accountant Quarterly.
Additional Information
Dr. Bockanic has held the Dr. James S. Reid Standard Products Chair housed in the Department of Management, Marketing and Logistics. Dr. Bockanic was also the recipient of the Wasmer Teaching Award, Boler School of Business (1999) as well as the Outstanding Contributor Award-Institute of Internal Auditors (2002). Additionally, he received the Institute of Management Accountants Certificate of Merit for outstanding character and excellence in contributing to the literature for the advancement of management accounting and financial management.
