The Online MBA at Boler is accessible from anywhere in the United States, and provides the same curriculum, professors, and networking opportunities as our in-person programs, but with the added convenience and flexibility of virtual learning.

The Online MBA varies from 33-45 credit hours, depending on the number of foundational business courses completed at the undergraduate level. The program may be completed at an accelerated pace in one year (summer included) or a two-to-three-year track that can be completed on a part-time basis. You choose what works best for your schedule and goals.

Boler Online MBA Curriculum

Credit hours required to complete the MBA program varies from a minimum of 33 hours (all foundation classes waived) to a maximum of 45 hours (all foundation skills needed).

Online MBA Foundation Courses (12 credits) provide a basis for understanding and success in the program. These classes may be waived if equivalent work has been completed at the undergraduate level.

AC 521 Fundamentals of Accounting (3 credits)

Provides an understanding of the purpose and use of accounting information through the study of generally accepted accounting principles and concepts as applied to financial statements. Includes measurement of assets, debt, and equities; determination of income; preparation of statement of cash flows. Offered occasionally as an online course.

EC 521 Fundamentals of Economics (3 credits)

Study of basic economic principles, with an emphasis on aggregate economic phenomena (macroeconomics). Microeconomic topics include supply and demand analysis, elasticity and their applications. Macroeconomic topics include measurement of macroeconomic activity, national income accounting, aggregate demand and supply, money, and fiscal and monetary policy.

EC 522 Business Statistics (Data Analytics) (3 credits)

Introduces the concepts of statistics, including descriptive statistics, probability, statistical inference, hypothesis testing, correlation, and regression.

FN 521 Fundamentals of Finance (3 credits)

The concepts of financial planning, analysis, forecasting, and control. Emphasis is on financial decision making from the perspective of the business firm. Topics include time value of money, ratio analysis, mergers, capital budgeting, risk, cost of capital, valuation, dividend policy, financial structure, and related financial topics.

Online MBA Core Courses (21 credits)

AC 551 Managerial Accounting (3 credits)

Emphasizes the role of accounting information for decision making with an emphasis on planning and control. Topics include modern management techniques, activity-based costing, just-in-time production systems, product costing, cost behavior, operations budgeting, capital budgeting, and responsibility accounting.

EC 551 Managerial Economics (3 credits)

Application of the analytical constructs of economic theory to practical problems faced by a firm and its representatives. Topics include demand analysis, production and cost analysis, market and pricing analysis, capital budgeting, and government policy.

FN 551 Financial Management (3 credits)

Study of the techniques of financial decision making within corporations. Lectures, case studies, problem solving, and readings focus on risk analysis, cost-of-capital concepts, money markets, capital markets, and selected topics which promote the understanding of modern financial management.

MK 551 Marketing Management (3 credits)

Marketing problems of business. Emphasis on planning and control affecting both marketing and company-wide operations, including such areas as sales forecasting, quota determination, and distribution cost analysis. Marketing problems associated with product and brand determination, distribution policies, promotion, and pricing. Special attention to legal and social questions that arise in connection with marketing operations.

SCM 551 Supply Chain and Operations Management (3 credits)

Introduces the core elements of SCM: customer values, collaboration, and the process of transforming raw materials into successful products. Focuses on the skills necessary to implement plans and mange projects, and to assess the performance of those plans and projects. Stresses project management, budgeting, quantitative performance evaluation, tactical programs, and the leadership and communication skills vital to successful implementation processes.

MN 550 Leadership and Managerial Skills (3 credits)

Comprehensive assessment of the student’s leadership and managerial skills, followed by classroom discussion of leadership and managerial skills, exercises, and an individual skills analysis review session. Develops skills awareness and career management strategy.

MN 556 Analytics-Driven Business Insights (3 credits)

Business analytics and big data are critical tools for effective business decision making. This course uses qualitative analytical techniques and quantitative descriptive and inferential analytical techniques to provide insights for business decision making. Students will learn techniques for classifying people and processes into segments or categories for performance metrics, drawing insights, and generating solutions. Students will also learn to apply predictive analysis techniques to sales and forecasting challenges as well as estimating the impact of activities on performance of the organization.

MHR 591 Business Ethics and Social Responsibility (3 credits)

This course focuses on the importance of ethics and social responsibility in business settings. The course is designed to increase students’ awareness and appreciation of ethical and social responsibility issues, provide conceptual approaches to guide and improve decision making, and learn to develop systems that create more ethical and socially responsible work environments.

Online MBA Electives (6 credits)

Two courses that pursue an in-depth study of a specific areas of business.  Students desiring a concentration in a specific area of business would take both in-depth courses in that area. Elective courses give MBA students an opportunity to tailor the MBA program in fields that are applicable to a student’s professional goals and personal interests. These in-depth courses may be taken at JCU if available or online through one of our partner Jesuit schools.

MHR 592 Corporate Strategic Management (3 credits)

Study of philosophy, techniques and competitive strategies comprising the strategic planning activity within business firms. Management’s vision, competitive mentality, strategy formulation and implementation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Online Boler MBA program accredited?

This program is accredited by AACSB International — The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AACSB accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. Fewer than 5% of the world’s 13,000 business programs have earned AACSB accreditation and this is an important fact to consider if you are comparing programs. Will the degree and the diploma say “online”

No. The degree is from John Carroll University and is awarded on meeting coursework standards that are independent of course delivery mode.

Is the GMAT/GRE required?

GMAT/GRE scores are waived for general admission. However, they are required for consideration for fellowships, graduate assistantships, and GMAT/GRE–based scholarships.

What is the tuition for the online MBA program?

Do online courses charge a different rate?

Online courses are the same standards and charge the same rate as all other MBA courses.

How will I interact with my instructor and other students?

There are many opportunities and options for interacting with professors/instructors, and classmates in your online program including discussion boards, video or audio files from your instructor, email and video conferencing. There may be additional opportunities for interaction available based on the course and instructor.

How long are the classes?

Most courses are offered over a 15-week semester period; some courses are offered over 7-week sessions.

How many classes can students take at one time?

Full-time students usually take 4 classes in a 15-week semester, while part-time students will likely take 2 classes in a 15-week semester. Students have the opportunity to complete a maximum of 4 classes over two seven-week sessions (Summer A and Summer B).

Will students be expected to participate at a specific time during this course?

Participation varies by professor. Some courses will be synchronous with mandatory or specific meeting times. Most courses will be asynchronous with no set meeting times.

How are the classes structured?

Online courses include components such as readings, activities, video lectures, discussion boards, chat rooms and other peer interaction, tests/quizzes and group projects. Both synchronous and asynchronous delivery apply.
